Hi, there. We are City of Rug.

About Us

Muaz Kasimoğlu was born in Van, Turkey, into a family deeply rooted in the art of rug weaving. His grandfather and father founded the family’s rug business in 1945, building a tradition based on craftsmanship, authenticity, and respect for centuries-old weaving techniques. As the business grew, the family moved their operations to Istanbul in 1960, establishing a store in the historic Sultanahmet district—an area known worldwide for its cultural heritage. That store, now over 60 years old, continues to present a carefully curated collection of predominantly antique, handwoven rugs.

With a vision to introduce this heritage to a global audience, the family expanded to the United States in 2000, opening their first American store in San Francisco. Soon after, they began serving clients in Washington, D.C., further strengthening their international presence.

Today, as a third-generation representative of the family, Muaz Kasimoğlu, together with his brothers, leads the business with the same dedication to quality and tradition. The company produces its rugs on its own specialized looms in different parts of the world, primarily in Turkey. Each rug is entirely handwoven using single-knot and double-knot techniques, crafted with original colors and materials, ensuring that every piece reflects both authenticity and enduring artistic value.
