Hi, there. We are City of Rug.
Our rug adventure, which has been going on for about 76 years, first started in 1945 in Van, Turkey, with my grandfather and father. We moved our business, which grew over time, to Istanbul in 1960. Our store in Istanbul Sultanahmet is approximately 61 years old where we have handwoven rugs that are mostly antique.
While doing our retail business in Istanbul Sultanahmet, we decided to move our business to the USA, thinking that we should open up to the world. We established our first American store in San Francisco in 2000 and then we started to serve in Washington DC. As the third generation, my brothers and I run our family business. We weave our rugs on our own special rugs weaving looms in different parts of the world, mainly in Turkey. Our rugs are woven using single knot and double knot techniques using completely hand woven and original colors.
